Winter Guard

When the marching band season ends, many of our members continue spinning as members of our winter guard.  Winter guard takes place indoors (in a gymnasium), and involves students performing to recorded music. The winter guard is locally competitive, appearing around the tri-state area.

The Roslyn High School Winterguard brought home the Scholastic A Class Gold Medal at the Mid Atlantic Indoor Network Championship held at the RWJ Barnabas Health Arena in Toms River, New Jersey, on April 23, 2023.

Remarkably this was the first competitive season for the group, as it is a brand new activity in the school.

Fresh off of being named the New York State Champions with our successful Marching Band in the Fall, the Winterguard began their own competitive season in December. Their production titled “A story to tell” is a routine performed indoors, to recorded music. The Winterguard attended competitions throughout the tri-state region during the winter and spring months in a competitive association called M.A.I.N. (Mid-Atlantic Indoor Network).

The culmination of the season is the MAIN championship, a 2-day event attended by 118 units, in 13 competitive classes, representing 7 states, comprising over 2,700 performers. In addition to winning the gold medal in Scholastic A Class, Roslyn’s score of 89.43 was the 3rd highest of the weekend in all classes of competition.

“We are so proud of these kids and this program, having stepped out into the Winterguard activity with no history of competing indoors while some of their competitors have decades of experience. They have exceeded all expectations.”

  • Anthony DeMarino, Director of Colorguards at Roslyn HS

The team was awarded first place out of 23 Scholastic A class units, and their incredible achievement was recognized  with individual gold medals, a championship banner and a trophy that will proudly be displayed at the high school.

The Winterguard program would not be possible without the support of the Roslyn District and High School Administration, The Roslyn Board of Education, The Roslyn Band Fans and the Roslyn Band Director, Frank Mauriello.
